Gillian has
been featured in Chronicle of the Horse, US Eventing, and
Practical Horseman. Gillian was born in Great Britain and grew up in New York area, where she was an avid pony-clubber and competitor. She show jumped and evented as an amateur while she earned her PhD in International Relations at London School of Economics, and subsequently taught International Relations for 10 years at Georgetown University. In 2001 Gillian and her husband Ric purchased Quarternote Farm in Nokesville, Va, a 42-acre boarding and training facility. In 2003 Gillian "retired" from her academic career to develop her horse business. Gillian had a top 20 placing at Fair Hill CCI*** aboard Sportscar in 2004, the wonder-mare who was rescued from a slaughter-bound truck. Gillian also won the "Sportsmanship Award" at Fair Hill. After winning the advanced division of Over The Walls HT in 2004, Chronicle of the Horse called Sport "indomitable" and noted Gillian's dedication to Sport by "sleeping in her truck over the weekend so that she could afford chiropractic work and massage for Sport before the event." Sportscar won the USEA "Mare of the Year" award in 2003. Gillian was the recipient of the Commonwealth Dressage & Combined Training 2004 Silver Spur award. In 2005 Gillian received a scholarship to the USEA Instructor Certification Program, and expects to receive final certification in late 2006.
